Why is this hardship happening?
That’s the question I continually struggle to answer. When I talk with friends who are experiencing deep hurt or hear stories from our clients about challenges they’re facing, I recognize I’m not alone in my wrestling with this question.
When we’re in the midst of pain, it’s hard to see or hear anything else. Sometimes all we can think of is how to escape. We will do anything to end it.
When fleeing from King Saul, David had a chance to end his pain early. In 1 Samuel 24, David’s men encouraged him to kill Saul. But David didn’t give into the temptation of an easy exit from his torment. Instead, he held fast to his faith in the Lord’s goodness and lovingkindness despite his life’s circumstances.
What solution have you been offered to end your disappointment or struggle? Would you pay $500 (the cost of an abortion) to end what you perceive is the biggest torment or difficulty in your life? That’s the question our clients ask themselves every day.
Why is this hardship happening? Romans 8:28 answers this question head on. “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
