How Early Can You Tell If You're Pregnant?

Do you think you might be pregnant?  Have you ever wondered how long after sex can you tell if you’ve become pregnant?

Most often, you can tell if you’re pregnant as early as 3-4 weeks after conception – or even sooner.  For most women, this coincides with a missed period, a common symptom of pregnancy. The first step to gathering information to determine if you may be pregnant is taking a pregnancy test. However, they are less likely to be accurate if taken shortly after conception.  These tests are administered given for free at pregnancy medical clinics like Life Forward.

Most pregnancy tests work by detecting a pregnancy hormone in urine. The longer you’ve been pregnant, the more likely this hormone will be detected. If you think you may be pregnant, there are resources available to you. Life Forward is a local pregnancy resource center here to help. We provide a number of useful services to pregnant women and new mothers.

Another way we may be able to tell if you’re pregnant is through a limited obstetrical ultrasound. It’s called “limited” when it is only used to determine if you’re pregnant.  Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, a trained profession may be able to confirm pregnancy through an ultrasound image.
