Keyasiah's Story

When I first came to Life Forward, I was mad at the world. I got into a lot of fights. I didn’t want to have anything to do with my ex-boyfriend and didn’t feel safe at my Mom’s house. So, I was living on the streets and in my car. When I thought I might be pregnant, it was just another reason to be angry.

I remember that first time I walked into Life Forward. I was anxious and scared. How would they treat me? What kind of place was this? Would they judge me for getting pregnant?

What surprised me the most was that they treated me like I belonged there. They listened to me, gave me a pregnancy test, performed an ultrasound and gave me resources that would help me and my baby. They even took the time to pray with me. They really cared about everything in my life - including my relationship with God.

My heart was broken when my pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. God had worked in my life to prepare me to be a mom and I felt like that was all over when my pregnancy ended.

I now know that God was preparing me to be a mom in His time. When I became pregnant again, I reached out to Life Forward right away. Even though I was unsure about coming back again for help, they cared for me and showed me real love. They offered me parenting classes and one-on-one sessions that helped me be a better mom and grow spiritually.

My daughter Ke’omi will be a year old this Spring. She’s the joy of my life. We’ve moved into our own apartment and have been attending church. Besides the carseat and the other baby items I got from Life Forward, I’m also thinking differently about how I want to raise my baby. I don’t want her to grow up angry at life. I want her to know she’s loved - the kind of love that Life Forward showed to me.

Thank you for helping Life Forward to be there for Ke’omi and me!
