Sierra’s Story
When Sierra’s pregnancy test came back negative, she gladly accepted the staff’s offer to schedule a Well Woman visit—her first ever adult primary care visit. During this visit, Sierra shared that she had a limited understanding of women’s health and struggled to fill out her medical forms. A nurse walked through the forms with her as she shared about her health, her past, and her hopes for the visit.
As the appointment continued, various screenings indicated that Sierra was struggling with depression, anxiety, and PTSD with a heavy history of surviving domestic abuse. Through tears, she shared, “I know I’ve done bad things, but I don’t know that I deserved the things that were done to me.”
This moment opened the door for the Gospel.
The nurse gently shared that while we all fall short, our mistakes never justify the harm done to us—and that Jesus does not approve of or rejoice in abuse. Sierra listened closely as the Gospel was shared and heard that Jesus is the only one who can bring true healing, one surrendered choice at a time.
Sierra said that explanation was the first time the Gospel made sense to her. When asked if she wanted to give her life to Christ, Sierra made a courageous move. She said YES!
After they prayed together, Sierra face lit up as she rejoiced, “I feel better. I feel lighter.”
Before she left, Sierra received both an adult Bible and a children's Bible to help her begin to read on her own along with referrals for counseling to work through her trauma.
Along with receiving standard lab testing and health screenings, Sierra left her appointment with something far greater—hope, healing, and a new beginning in Christ!
